About Knyszyń Forest Landscape Park

Established in 1988, Knyszyń Forest Landscape Park covers a large portion of the Knyszyńska Forest, one of the oldest and most extensive forest complexes in northeastern Poland. The park is characterized by its diverse ecosystems, including mixed coniferous and deciduous forests, wetlands, peat bogs, and numerous small rivers and ponds. Rich in biodiversity, the park is home to many protected species such as lynx, elk, wild boar, and the European beaver, alongside a variety of rare birds and plants. The landscape is gently undulating with sandy soils and numerous glacial landforms that tell the story of the region’s geological past. The park offers a range of well-marked hiking and cycling trails, making it a favored destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. Visitors can explore historic villages and cultural landmarks near the park boundaries that reflect traditional Podlasie heritage. This area appeals especially to those seeking quiet wilderness experiences away from urban centers, with opportunities for wildlife observation, peaceful forest walks, and seasonal birdwatching. The park is also notable for its educational programs that promote sustainable tourism and conservation awareness among visitors. It serves as a vital green lung for the region and an important refuge for many native species of flora and fauna.
